On the 8th of September, some of us had the privilege to train with a renowned karateka, Rick Hotton Sensei, in Basingstoke. A martial artist turned maths teacher and cartoonist, Rick embodies the contemporary search for harmony in body, mind, and spirit. He started his journey in the 1970s and has been practising for about 50 years: “after half a lifetime of practice, there is no ego left, no desire to compare, only a mindful deliberate practice to engage authentically“.
Rather than trying to put to paper some of the key points studied on the day, we thought that videos (kindly borrowed from Sankaku Shotokan Karate) would better illustrate Rick’s style, techniques, personality and passion for the art…
Enjoy !!
A suberb session and a very warm welcome from our HDKI friends, including Steven Bailes. And a big thank you to Amanda Gisby for organising !
